Usually the error is shown on the senders side. What sort of error (or user experience) is the receiver getting?

VPN's can introduce several network variables that can cause problems with file transfers - I've had mixed results.

here is my issue with OCS file transfer. A user is able to VPN into the network, OCS works fine for voice and chat. That user on VPN is able to send a file out to another user (in the corp network), but is unable to receive a file on OCS. any ideas?

Great article. Been battling a problem that was fixed by disabling my VMWare Workstation NICs, thanks much.

As "soder" mentioned in the post dated February 19, 2010, .exe files will not transfer regardless of the exceptions made using the Intelligent Instant Message Filter for an OCS pool. We have an OCS 2007 R2 implementation and have been trying to allow the transfer of .exe, along with several other file types, for a few months with no success. This week one of the engineers working our Microsoft case found that there is a client-side hard coded filter preventing certain file types from being transferred. When we wrap up the case I'll come back and post the final results. I have to admit that it's fun to be involved with uncovering a problem that may result in a Microsoft KB. More importantly though, and the not so fun part, I hope this saves somebody some time. Building test environments, providing MOC log files and sip stack trace results is time consuming. =]

Yes (if everything is configured correctly of course :-)). The OCS Edge Access Role makes this possible (and the magic of Network Address Translation).

will file transfer works when
user A (PC has a private IP), is connected internally to a front end server and access the internet through a firewall
user B(PC has a private IP), is a remote user that connceted to the edge server and access the internet thought a firewall
please note that the port range required for file transfer is open on both firewalls

.exe extension is always blocked, regardless the setting of allowable file extensions in OCS filter list, as some Windows or IE security settings semm to be also applied to file transfers.
